Discharge a Sign of Early
Pregnancy
Most of the women who are or are not desirous
of pregnancy, want to know whether they are pregnant or not
when they miss their period. There are various signs and
symptoms which indicate the possibility of pregnancy. Almost everybody
is aware of morning sickness as a possible sign that you may be
pregnant. The most familiar and well known sign of being
pregnant is a missed period. You should also know that many
people consider discharge a sign of early pregnancy. To know more,
read the details.
Vaginal flow which can be seen in the underwear, or if you
wash after urination, may vary in colour from milky white
discharge to pink discharge. This is due to the increase in
estrogen levels and blood flow to the vagina. It may seem like
you are spotting when you see the color around your normal
menstrual period. The brownish or brown vaginal discharge
(blood), which may be remaining from the previous menstrual
cycle, should not alarm you as it's not a problem.
Not all women experience this sort of vaginal flow/
discharge during early pregnancy, so if you don't see this type
of discharge, it does not mean you are not pregnant! You
may be pregnant, and may not be having this specific sign of
pregnancy. The best way to determine if you're pregnant is to
consult your doctor and get a test done.
This form of vaginal discharge is often called the 'mucous
plug' because it blocks the opening of the cervix to protect
the foetus against infections. At the end of pregnancy, during
labour, this mucus plug is expelled as the cervix dilates.
You should think about discharge a sign of early pregnancy only if it is not
accompanied with any symptoms like itching or burning and the
discharge, thick or thin, does not have a bad odour and it is
not greenish or yellowish discharge. If you have bad
smelling discharge along with itching and burning then you
should take it seriously and consult your doctor. The
examination by the doctor is necessary because the above
symptoms could be because of some bacterial or viral infection
which needs urgent attention and treatment.
So for all practical purposes, you may consider discharge a
sign of early pregnancy, but you should
be sure only after confirming the presence or absence of
pregnancy by consultation with a doctor and with appropriate
pregnancy tests. The doctor will treat the cause of discharge
if it's not been caused by the pregnancy.
