Nutrition and Vitamins for
Pregnancy
The duration of pregnancy usually is about 40 weeks or nine
months. Whole pregnancy is divided into three parts called
trimester- consisting of three months each. During these
trimesters, many things happen to your body and the baby as
well. Pregnancy is the period of joy to be cherished. A healthy
and happy pregnancy is the way to a lifetime of maternal
bliss.
Nutrition and vitamins for pregnancy are very
important. Eating various healthy foods, drinking adequate
amount of water and reducing the amount of fatty foods are very
important for you and your developing baby. Eating healthily is
necessary irrespective of your stage of pregnancy. Iron for
example is important for healthy pregnancy. Eating iron rich
foods along with citrus fruits increases the absorption of
iron. If you can not get enough iron from your diet, then you
should take iron supplements. Eating a healthy diet during
pregnancy can also decrease such symptoms as constipation and
nausea.
If you supply your body with proper nutrition and vitamins,
it will increase your fertility, will keep the pregnancy
healthy, will make the labour easy and gives essential building
blocks to your child. Regular exercises decrease many
discomforts during pregnancy, like
constipation and keeps the aches and pains away caused by the
state of being pregnant.
Women who are underweight at the time of beginning of
pregnancy need to increase about thirty to forty pounds. That
simply means taking more calories than is recommended for a
regnant person. On the other hand, overweight women are advised
to gain about fifteen to 25 pounds. You should take about 6-8
glasses of water in addition to the soups and juices. You
should also restrict your intake of caffeine and alcohol.
Smoking of course is a big no-no. Alcohol and smoking can harm
your developing baby especially in the first trimester.
Pregnancy is a
time when you should not worry about anything. Do not skip
meals as your baby needs the proper nutrition constantly.
Pregnancy puts extra demands on your body for extra protein,
iron, folic acid and vitamin C etc. So focus on taking proper
nutrition and vitamins for your pregnancy rather than on energy
intake.
